Totnes toilets - to reopen in day time

8 Jan 2018

SHDC says that from Wednesday January 10th all three public toilets in Totnes are to be reopened. They will be open from 8.00am to 5.00pm on Monday to Friday.

SHDC also says the toilets will be "open for markets at weekends and special events". As there is a market every Saturday they haven't made it clear if all three toilets will be open or just the one at the Civic Square.

Lib Dem councillor John Birch has campaigned hard to get SHDC to listen to the views of the community who were appalled at the closure of all public toilets in the town three days before Christmas, when the town was full of Christmas shoppers.

The council said it had closed the toilets because of concerns for public safety because of anti-social behaviour including drug-taking.

It remains to be seen whether these new opening hours will be permanent.
