Totnes toilets - SHDC refuse to listen

6 Jan 2018

SHDC Executive is refusing to listen to the views of community representatives from Totnes over the issue of the public toilets which have been closed since before Christmas.

Lib Dem Councillor John Birch organised a delegation of local representatives to meet Executive Members and officers of SHDC before their meeting on Monday afternoon, at which they will decide the future of the Totnes toilets.

The delegation includes local Town and District councillors as well as community representatives. Birch asked that those deciding the future of the toilets listen to the views of the local delegation before reaching their decision.

"Today I have been informed that the Executive Members and officers are not prepared to meet with the delegation or listen to the community's views. Further local councillors have been excluded from the meeting to decide the future of the toilets," said Birch.

This failure to listen to the local community is a shocking state of affairs. What is the Conservative administration seeking to hide?

The council said it had closed the toilets because of concerns for public safety because of anti-social behaviour including drug-taking.
