Totnes Liberal Democrats get their teeth into Kingsbridge Show

9 Sep 2004

For the third successive year Totnes Liberal Democrats took a stand at Kingsbridge Agricultural Show, one of the biggest in the Totnes Constituency. Over 400 people signed their petition to make National Health Dentistry available to all and the stand was awash with visitors all day. Speaking afterwards Totnes PPC, Mike Treleaven said:

'We regard the Kingsbridge Show as a brilliant showcase - thousands of people attend and we have a constant stream of visitors including, this year, Anthony Steen our Tory M.P., who declined to sign our petition! We also managed to have a huge Lib Dem banner displayed in the main ring which caused some raised eyebrows amongst the farming community.'

He continued:

' Last year we launched our Axe the Tax campaign and this year concentrated on NHS dentists which is one of the biggest issues in South Devon. This is a great way to meet the local community and gives the opportunity to recruit new members - 4 we think on the day.'
