The decision to close the Foxhole and Ranscombe Road post offices, announced by the Post Office today, was roundly condemned by Totnes Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Spokesperson, Mike Treleaven.

Speaking after the announcement he said:

'Yet again the poorest and most vulnerable in our society are made to suffer. The post office is a vital link for many people, particularly pensioners and those on benefit and the closure of these two offices will just be an added burden in their lives.'

He continued:

'Local residents and the Liberal Democrats have campaigned hard to save Foxhole and Ranscombe Road but the Post Office have chosen not to listen to our concerns. Hard economics has taken over from people's welfare and it is another justification for urban post offices such as these to receive subsidies in much the same way as given to rural offices'
