Lib Dem councillors for climate action.
John Birch, along with the support of other Liberal Democrat councillors, is putting forward a proposal to next week's Full Council meeting of South Hams District Council that provides for each of the 31 councillors to be allocated a sum of £3,000 to be put towards climate change and biodiversity projects in their area..
John Birch says "Following a Liberal Democrat initiative a sum has been included in the Council budget to be spent on climate change and biodiversity projects and I, along with other Lib Dem councillors, wish to see some of this money spent on local community projects. It will be up to local councillors to decide which of the local projects they would like to see their allocated monies spent on. The project will be expected to fit in with the Council's Climate Change and Biodiversity Strategy and Action plan.
The scheme, if approved at the meeting next week, should act as an incentive for local community groups to come up with projects and hopefully attract other funding that can then be matched with the councillors' allocation "
