Letter Gazette - Skate park closure

14 Jun 2004

Dear Editor,

The closure of the skate park is the expected consequence of siting it in the wrong place to start with. Thousands of pounds of tax payers money has been wasted along with considerable amounts raised by the skate boarders themselves.

There are few enough facilities in Kingsbridge for young people and to lose this popular and well used amenity would penalise the majority of well behaved kids who are just enjoying themselves. Surely the answer is to re-locate in an area where the park can be managed and properly supervised. Why not use part of the old cattle market? Here it could be fenced in, monitored by leisure centre staff and accessed during leisure centre opening hours. In the meantime can we not come to some agreement to keep the existing park open?

Yours sincerely,

Mike Treleaven
