Caroline Voaden Leads Lib Dem List for the SW in Euro Elections
The Liberal Democrats have picked Totnes PPC Caroline Voaden as the lead candidate on their South West list for the European elections on May 23rd.
Caroline will be leading a strong team of candidates from across the region including two ex-MPs, a bilingual translator, the chair of the Lib Dem European Group and a representative of the Liberal Party of Gibraltar.
All were selected by party members from across the region which stretches from the Scilly Isles to Swindon and includes Gibraltar.
"I have always considered myself to be a European. I have lived and worked in six EU countries and have spoken five languages over the years. I became politically active because of the EU Referendum and will be fighting a strong campaign to keep Britain in the EU," said Caroline.
"The Liberal Democrats are the largest consistently pro-Remain party in the UK. We have led the campaign for a People's Vote since June 2016 and I'm proud to represent a party that has thousands of activists on the ground, across the country, who will campaign for us to end this damaging and chaotic Brexit. It has sucked the life out of our politics and is a national embarrassment.
"I hope this European election, which we didn't expect to have, will show the tide has turned since June 2016 and that Brexit is absolutely not 'the will of the people'."
Caroline, who lives in Totnes, was selected by the local party last year to stand as the Parliamentary Candidate for the Totnes Constituency. She currently serves on the party's South Hams executive committee and stood in the 2017 snap general election in South West Devon against Gary Streeter.
She is a multilingual former Reuters journalist who moved to the constituency in 2007. She was chair of the national WAY Foundation (www.widowedandyoung.org.uk) and ran her own business in Totnes for many years. She currently works as a freelance editor, is married to Stuart and has two teenage daughters and an adult stepson.
