By-election victory for Liberal Democrats in Totnes By-election

On 27th July the Liberal Democrats gained a seat on South Hams District Council, at the Totnes Ward by-election caused by the resignation of Labour councillor David Horsburgh. The figures were:
John Birch (Liberal Democrat) 812 (44.2%)
Alan White (Green) 499 (27.1%)
Alex Mockridge (Independent with Labour support) 391 (21.3%)
Andrew Barand (Conservative) 137 (7.4%)
Majority: 313
