Totnes PPC, Mike Treleaven joined with Lib Dem group leader on South Hams District Council, Cathie Pannell, District Councillors, Anne Ward and Marilyn Roadknight and Torbay Councillor Chris Lomas to launch our 'Axe the Tax' campaign in Totnes last Saturday. Nearly 200 people signed our petition in under 2 hours as we gave out information leaflets and talked to the Saturday shopping crowds. This is just the start as we will be taking the campaign to all the towns in the constituency in the coming weeks starting with Brixham next Saturday morning ( Oct. 25th.) Commenting on the launch Mike Treleaven said:

'We had a fantastic response on Saturday with people of all ages and backgrounds coming to sign the petition - it is very clear that our policy is striking a chord with everyone realising that the Council Tax has to go and we are the only party proposing a fair and just way to replace it. We attracted considerable media coverage with items on radio and in the press. Our Tory M.P., Anthony Steen, was even prompted to make disparaging remarks referring to the campaign as ' Mickey Mouse - like playing draughts while the Titanic is sinking', a metaphor more in tune with the current disarray in the Conservative Party than our hugely popular campaign. I'm looking forward to meeting lots more people and getting lots more signatures over the coming weeks as we take our campaign around the constituency.'
